Wolf’s Coming! by Joe Kulka

The pigs are worried. The wolf is coming. Oh no!

You’ve already figured out the storyline, haven’t you?

Not so. This is a fun twist on the “Big Bad Wolf” – it’s not the Three Little Pigs story after all. I won’t spoil the ending, but just say that Wolf’s Coming! is a good story for teaching kids about plot suspense. It’s all a big buildup with a surprise happy ending. I found the kids enjoyed it more on repeated readings, as they could play along with the suspense and enjoyed being “in” on the secret at the end.

The illustrations are amusing and well-suited for discussing with kids too young to sit through the story, and the text simply begs for dramatic voices and suspenseful pauses for extra fun.

Overall, a fun read, if not a quiet one.
